Lustron House in Irvington

I came across this interesting house on East St. Joseph Street in Irvington. It’s a Lustron house from the late 1940s. Lustron houses are prefabricated enameled steel houses developed in the post-World War II as a low-cost alternative to conventional houses. I’ve heard there are several of these scattered throughout Indianapolis. It would be interesting to know what living in a steel house is like. Is it noisier, hotter, does it rust? I didn’t have the nerve to knock on the door and find out. You can read more about Lustron houses at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lustron_house
